LAFAYETTE, LA. ? Junior Kevin Ward shot a 6-under 210 for a one-stroke win, helping Kansas University’s men’s golf squad place second after the final round of the Louisiana Classics Invitational.
Ward, who held off SMU’s Will Dodson (211), won his first career tournament title.
The Jayhawks, who shot a team total of 2-over 866, finished just one stroke behind team winner SMU in the 15-squad event.
“I was very pleased that Kevin got his first career victory against a very tough field in this tournament,” KU coach Ross Randall said.
“It was a nice win for him because he works as hard as anybody on this team and deserves it.”
KU travels March 22-23 to Santa Cruz, Calif., for the Western Intercollegiate.
“I am encouraged by how we are playing as a team and getting better with each round,” Randall said.
