Overland Park ? Kansas University’s tennis team fell to Iowa, 6-1, Friday at the Overland Park Racquet Club.
The Jayhawks quickly found themselves down 1-0 after they dropped all three doubles matches.
In singles play, the Jayhawks (1-7) managed to win only two sets from the Hawkeyes (10-2). Senior Kristen Steinbock picked up Kansas’ lone point in a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Deni Alexandrova, while the other five Jayhawk singles players fell in straight sets.
“Right now we aren’t at the level we know we could be,” coach Amy Hall said. “We have competitors but we aren’t competing as a team. We are starting Big 12 play next week, and we need to be playing to our ability.”
Kansas will play host to Oklahoma State at noon Friday and Texas Tech at noon Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to be played indoors at the Wood Valley Racquet Club in Topeka. However, if the weather permits, they will play outdoors at Robinson Courts on campus.
