Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino calls campus visits “highly structured” events that feature plenty of meetings and a few activities to keep recruits busy during a 48-hour stay.
Most recruits meet with KU’s academic staff (such as associate athletic director for support services Paul Buskirk), support staff (athletic trainers, doctors, etc.) and the coaching staff.
Recruits are paired with KU players (usually based on position, geographical backgrounds or other common interests), and the player host gives the recruit tours of the campus, town and Jayhawker Towers. Player hosts also are responsible for entertaining the recruit during the evenings.
Players tour facilities, including Anderson Strength Center, Memorial Stadium and Anschutz Pavilion.
Coaches often take the recruits to the Jaybowl in the Kansas Union as part of their campus experience, and the prospects’ trip could include a KU men’s basketball game if the visit coincided with a home game.
