Kansas University pitcher Ryan Knippschild was selected by the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday in the 35th round of baseball’s free-agent draft.
Knippschild, a senior left-hander from Rancho Cordova, Calif., led the Jayhawks this spring in innings pitched and strikeouts while compiling a 6-8 record.
Knippschild transferred to KU in 2003 from American River Community College in Sacramento, Calif. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound southpaw posted an 8-5 record in his first season at Kansas.
KU recruit Erik Morrison — an infielder from Arroyo Grande, Calif. — was selected by the New York Yankees on Tuesday in the 48th round, but Morrison was not expected to skip college.
Kansas junior third baseman Travis Metcalf was selected Monday by Texas in the draft’s 11th round.
