Menzel resigns as coach

Megan Menzel, head women’s golf coach at Kansas University the past two seasons, resigned from her position on Tuesday to spend more time with her family.

“The players, staff and supporters of KU have made the last two years a wonderful experience for my family and I,” Menzel said. “We love Lawrence and will certainly continue to live in this community. This was a very difficult decision because of the love and respect that we have for the University of Kansas.”

KU placed eighth in the 2003 Big 12 Conference tournament, the team’s best finish since 1998.

“We appreciate everything that Megan has done for our program during her tenure at the University of Kansas,” senior women’s administrator Kelly Landry Mehrtens said. “She left the program in excellent shape for our new coach both academically and athletically.”

KU will begin searching for a coach. No interim has been named.
