McCoy’s unit to be mobilized

By J-W Staff Reports     Jul 14, 2004

Senior KU football defensive end John McCoy has received notice that his Army Reserve Unit will be called to duty. McCoy is part of the 317th Quartermaster Battalion. The group will train at Fort Riley, Kan., later this summer. McCoy has been in the Army since July 2000. McCoy first received word about the mobilization on April 12.

“We support John as we support all of our troops,” KU head coach Mark Mangino said in a prepared statement released by KU. “We pray for his safe and speedy return. Our team will definitely miss John this year. We expected him to have a big impact on the football field, but obviously, there are more important things in life than football.”

McCoy played in 12 games in his junior season and completed 11 tackles.
