Former Jayhawk Ervin signs letter with UNLV

Former Kansas University basketball player Lauren Ervin has signed a scholarship agreement to play for UNLV starting in 2005-2006.

Ervin will sit out the 2004-2005 season at the Las Vegas school in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.

Ervin, a native of Inglewood, Calif., left KU after just one troubled season, where she averaged 6.8 points and 6.8 rebounds a game. A McDonald’s All-American in high school, she missed four games, primarily for disciplinary reasons.

She was also reprimanded by the Big 12 Conference for allegedly sparking a fight between the Kansas and Missouri basketball teams after a January game that led to the suspension of several players.

UNLV, a member of the Mountain West Conference, was 26-8 last year, including a 4-1 record in the Women’s NIT.

“We’re ecstatic about being able to attract a player of Lauren’s caliber,” UNLV coach Lauren Miller said.

Ervin is one of three players who left the KU program after Bonnie Henrickson took over for the retired Marian Washington. The others were Tamara Ransburg and Kandis Bonner.
