1974

Marian Washington recorded winning season (11-8) in her first year as Kansas University coach. Founded KU women’s track and field team.

1975

Earned masters degree in biodymantics and administration from KU.

1976

Signed Lynette Woodard of Wichita North, the nation’s top prep player.

1978

Notched first 20-win season.

1979

Won first Big Eight championship.

1981

Earned third straight Big Eight championship. Woodard becomes four-time All-American, wins Broderick and Wade Trophies.

1983

Became first black woman to coach U.S. team in international play (U.S. Select Team).

1984

Named to Olympics selection committee.

1988

Recorded 250th victory.

1991

Receives Carol Eckman Award.

1992

Named Black Coaches Association, Big Eight and Kansas Basketball Coaches Association coach of the year after capturing Big Eight title and posting 350th win.

1993

Elected president of Black Coaches Association. Inducted into West Chester State Athletic Hall of Fame.

1994

Served second term at BCA president. Earned No. 6 ranking in Associated Press poll, highest ranking in school history.

1995

Named winner of Giant Steps Award. Finalist for Kansas University Employee of the Year. Records 400th win.

1996

Guided Kansas to league title in last year of Big Eight. Advanced to NCAA Sweet 16 for first time in school history. Named Big Eight and BCA coach of the year. Named an assistant coach for U.S. Olympics team.

1997

Led Kansas to first Big 12 championship. Named Big 12 coach of year. Posted 450th career win. Named the William I. Koch outstanding woman of the year. Made sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

1998

Advanced to NCAA Sweet 16 for second time in school history.

1999

Earned 500th career win Feb. 20 against Oklahoma. Made eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Hired former KU All-American Lynette Woodard as assistant coach.

2000

Advanced to NCAA Tournament for ninth straight season. Recorded 11th straight season with 20-plus wins.

2002

Coached in 850th game.

2003

Earned 550th victory Feb. 19 against Nebraska. Honored by BCA with lifetime achievement award.

2004

Scheduled to be inducted into National Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame this summer.
