Los Angeles ? Kansas University junior Wayne Simien is one of 20 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award as college basketball’s player of the year.
Other finalists are: Stanford’s Josh Childress, St. Joseph’s Jameer Nelson, Syracuse’s Hakim Warrick, Marquette’s Travis Diener, Arizona State’s Ike Diogu, Georgia Tech’s B.J. Elder, Texas Tech’s Andre Emmett, Kentucky’s Gerald Fitch, Vanderbilt’s Matt Freije, Louisville’s Francisco Garcia, Providence’s Ryan Gomes, Wisconsin’s Devin Harris, N.C. State’s Julius Hodge, Oregon’s Luke Jackson, Oklahoma State’s John Lucas, Duke’s Chris Duhon, Connecticut’s Emeka Okafor, Mississippi State’s Lawrence Roberts and Gonzaga’s Blake Stepp.
Kansas University junior Wayne Simien is among 20 finalists for the 2003-04 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Tuesday. Simien, a 6-foot-9 forward from Leavenworth, averages a team-leading 16.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, ranking third in the Big 12 Conference in both categories. Andre Emmett of Texas Tech is the only other Big 12 player on the list.
