Unbeatens climb to top of polls

The last two unbeaten teams are 1-2 in the rankings.

Stanford replaced Duke at No. 1 in the Associated Press men’s college basketball poll Monday, and Saint Joseph’s moved up to No. 2 for the first time in nearly 40 years.

The undefeated teams also were 1-2 in the USA Today-ESPN coaches poll.

The Cardinal (21-0) and the Hawks (22-0), the only undefeated teams in Division One, each rose one spot in the AP rankings after Duke (21-2) lost to North Carolina State, 78-74, Sunday. That ended the Blue Devils’ 18-game winning streak.

“It lets us know that we’re working hard, and people are respecting us, and we’re doing something right,” Stanford junior forward Josh Childress said.

Stanford was the fifth team to top the poll this season following Duke (four weeks), Connecticut (eight weeks), Kansas University (one week) and Florida (one week). The Gators dropped out of the Top 25 completely Monday.

Kansas, which lost to Oklahoma State and Nebraska, had the biggest drop, from 12th to 21st.
