PALO ALTO, CALIF. ? Kansas University’s baseball team saw fourth-ranked Stanford score in each of the first three innings en route a 7-1 victory Friday at Sunken Diamond.
Kansas (7-5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning when sophomore Jared Schweitzer singled in sophomore Matt Baty from second.
Stanford (6-1) evened the score in the bottom half of the first inning and scored twice in the second and again in the third to push its lead to three runs at 4-1.
KU senior starter Ryan Knippschild (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs off 10 hits while striking out five in 61/3 innings.
The Cardinal’s sophomore starter, Mark Romanczuk, struck out a career-high 13 and earned his second win.
KU junior Sean Richardson equaled a career high for hits, going 4-for-4 with four singles. The Vista, Calif., native was the only Jayhawk to record multiple hits.
Kansas will face the Cardinal at 1 p.m. PST today.
KU senior Chris Smart (2-2) will make his third start.
