Long-time Lawrence radio personality Hank Booth will replace Howard Hill as public-address announcer at Kansas University men’s basketball games at Allen Fieldhouse.
Hill announced his retirement after the football season, but said he would do men’s basketball until a replacement was found.
Booth, who has served as Hill’s backup for the past decade, has agreed to take over starting with the Baylor game Feb. 18. Hill’s last game will be Saturday against Texas Tech.
“If I do half as good a job as Howard Hill did the past 21 years, then KU athletics will have a great new announcer,” Booth said.
Booth was general manager of Lawrence’s KLWN-KLZR radio stations until last December, when he became executive director of the Lawrence-based Kansas Wildscape Foundation.
Hill had been KU’s football and men’s basketball PA announcer since 1982.
“It’s been a great ride,” Hill said. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
