Jayhawks in fifth place

? Kansas University’s women’s golf team, which has finished either 11th or 12th in Big 12 Conference during the last five years and never has finished higher than seventh, is in fifth place after Friday’s first day of the league tournament.

KU shot 305 at the 6,242-yard par 72 Pebble Creek Country Club.

Texas leads the tournament with 292 strokes. Host school Texas A&M is in second with 294. Oklahoma shot 299 for third, and Baylor is in fourth with 304.

Chelsey Pryor led the Jayhawks in a tie for fourth place after shooting a career-best even-par 72. Amanda Costner shot 75 and is tied for 13th place.
