Manning interim aide

Kansas University basketball coach Bill Self said he’s received 50 to 60 applications for his assistant head coaching vacancy, which opened nine days ago when associate head coach Norm Roberts was hired at St. John’s.

“We’ve told anybody who has called to send in their stuff we’d not be doing anything for a while,” Self said of filling the staff opening.

Danny Manning, KU’s director of student-athlete development, has taken over Roberts’ duties on an interim basis. That means the former KU All-American, can get his first taste of recruiting on the road.

“Danny and I will discuss the situation in the future. As of now, he’s going to fulfill Norm’s role on an interim basis. It could become something more than that,” Self said. “Right now we’re trying to get through recruiting.”
