Kansas tennis edges past Huskers, 4-3

? Kansas University’s tennis team slipped past Nebraska, 4-3, Saturday at Cather Pound Courts.

KU won two of three doubles matches to snare the doubles point, then won at Nos. 2, 4 and 5 singles.

KU’s Courtney and Kristen Steinbock won at No. 1 doubles, and Emily Haylock-Ashley Filberth won at No. 2.

Haylock (No. 2), Kristen Steinbock (No. 4) and Brittany Brown (No. 5) claimed singles victories.

Brown’s win, a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 decision over Anna Oehme, broke a 3-all tie and gave KU the overall win.

“I am so proud of the way our girls competed today,” KU coach Amy Hall said. “I know I have said it before, but I really believe things are finally coming together for this team. We now have our full lineup back and are starting to play at the level we know we should be at.”

KU improved to 6-12 overall, 4-4 in the Big 12 Conference. NU fell to 13-7, 3-5.

Kansas will play host to Missouri today. Match time is 3 p.m. at Robinson Courts.

It will be the final home meet of the season for the Jayhawks.
