STILLWATER, OKLA. ? Kansas University’s baseball team appears well on its way to leading the Big 12 Conference in hitting.
The Jayhawks’ .328 team batting average currently tops the league and ranks No. 13 nationally, but the Jayhawks are struggling in conference play going into this weekend’s series against Oklahoma State.
Games are scheduled for 7 tonight and for 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Allie Reynolds Stadium.
Torrid hitting hasn’t prevented KU from sharing the league basement with Missouri and Kansas State at 2-7. Oklahoma State’s league record is 4-4.
Kansas boasts the league’s leading hitter in Matt Baty. The sophomore second baseman owns a .396 batting average. Baty also leads the league in stolen bases with 22 and ranks second in on-base percentage.
Third baseman Travis Metcalf is the league’s home-run leader with 13, while senior first baseman Ryan Baty is the conference pacesetter in doubles with 15.
