Jayhawks add lineman

Kansas University’s football program could use some help after losing three starters from last season’s defensive line. Coffeyville Community College transfer Chadd Felps hopes to lend a hand.

Felps, a second-team All-Jayhawk Conference selection, recently committed to join the Jayhawks. Whether the Lafayette, La., product will be a scholarship or walk-on player remains to be seen.

“There’s still some scholarships open,” Felps told the Journal-World in a phone interview Sunday. “I’m not sure if they’re going to give one to me. If they didn’t give me a scholarship, I was going to try to walk-on and earn one.”

Felps (6-foot-4, 260 pounds) was steered to Coffeyville by Auburn University out of high school when he was a 290-pound offensive lineman. He lost weight in the junior-college ranks but hopes to bulk up to “at least 280” during the summer while working out with the Jayhawks.

Felps played defensive end as a freshman before moving to tackle last season.
