Despite release form, no official word from Niang

San Diego State this week has received a release form allowing the Aztecs to talk to Kansas University sophomore center Moulaye Niang about a possible transfer.

The San Diego Tribune has reported that Niang is expected to visit the Aztecs within the next two weeks. He also will possibly visit Texas Christian University, coached by former KU assistant Neil Dougherty.

However, Niang has not officially announced his intentions to transfer. In fact, his high school coach, Curtis Hofmeister, said Niang still had more meetings planned with KU coach Bill Self before finalizing any decision whether to officially leave the Jayhawks.

“People may have received his release,” Hoffmeister told the Journal-World, “but even as of yesterday he’d not made up his mind for sure. He’s not made the final call.”

Self has also indicated that more meetings would take place before an official decision was announced.
