KU tennis squad slips past Illinois St.

? Kansas University’s tennis squad started its spring season with a 4-3 victory Saturday over Illinois State at Wood Valley Racquet Club.

Stephanie Smith, Luiza Loureiro and Ashley Filberth each won a singles match for the Jayhawks, and the doubles teams of Christine Skoda/Loureiro and Smith/Lauren Hommell were victorious.

“I was very proud of the way our team played today,” KU coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “We played with a lot of heart and battled for every point.”

KU will play host to BYU on Saturday at the Overland Park Racquet Club.

? The Kansas University tennis squad earned four victories Saturday at the Polo National Collegiate Preview.

Freshmen Brittany Brown and Ashley Filberth each won their singles matches, and the doubles tandems of Brown and sophomore Christine Skoda and seniors Kristen Steinbock and Emily Haylock also won.

The final round of the tournament is today.
