Kansas University golfer Pete Krsnich comes up short on a putt on the ninth hole of the Kansas Invitational. Krsnich shot a two-round score of 151 and was tied for 44th Monday at Alvamar.

A change of venue for Kansas University’s golf team definitely provided the Jayhawks some comfort Monday.

“I’m just glad I get to sleep in my own bed and don’t have to get up at those crazy hours,” KU junior Andrew Price said.

Those are the kind of perks when you are playing on your home course, and Price and the Jayhawks took advantage of being accustomed to Alvamar Monday during the Kansas Invitational.

Price leads the 15-team field with a two-round score of 136, which is five strokes better than Illinois State’s Brian Anderson. The Jayhawks also find themselves holding the top mark, having fired a team total of 571, while Wichita State sits in second with a score of 583.

“There’s definitely a comfort zone here,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “We’re not where we want to be yet, but we’re doing better.”

Kansas, which took second last year in the tourney, has four of its five golfers in the top 15.

In addition to Price, Ryan Rainer sits in a tie for 11th place with Tyler Docking with 145, while Kevin Ward is tied for 15th with 146. Pete Krsnich fired a 151, which placed him in a tie for 44th place.

Several other Jayhawks are competing on their own.

Gary Woodland is tied for eight place with a 144, while Luke Trammell’s 148 places him in a tie for 24th. Barrett Martens (153), Tyler Hall (158) and Jason Sigler (165) round out the KU field.

“We’re sitting in pretty good shape right now,” Ward said. “We just need to come out tomorrow and put a few quality rounds together, and we’ll have a shot at winning this.

“It’d be a nice way for the season to go to get a win here at home.”
