• Guard Miah Davis, the Big West Player of the Year, scored 19 points in Pacific’s win over Providence. Center Guillaume Yango scored 18.
• Michael Olowokandi, the overall No. 1 draft pick in the 1998 draft, who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, has had his No. 55 retired at Pacific. He is Pacific’s fourth All-American. The others were Keith Swagerty (1967), John Gianelli (1972) and Ron Cornelius (1981). Olowokandi averaged 22.2 points in 1997-98 with 95 blocks his senior year. He shot 61 percent as a senior. He was Big West Player of the Year.

• The Jayhawks won the first-ever meeting with K-State, 54-39, Jan. 25, 1907 in Lawrence.
• First-year KU assistant Tim Jankovich was a three-year starter at K-State. While playing for the Wildcats, Jankovich was a three-time Academic All-American and an honorable mention All-Big Eight player. He left KSU with nine top-10 career marks, including ranking first in assists per game and first in career free-throw percentage (91.7). In each of his three seasons, the Wildcats were ranked in the top 20 and posted three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 1981 Elite Eight berth and a 1982 Sweet 16 appearance. Jankovich also served as an assistant coach for KSU 1984-86.
• Kansas State assistant sports information director Tom Gilbert served one year as an intern in the Kansas media relations office. Four current members of the KUAC staff also spent time in Manhattan before serving in their current positions — Candace Dunback (media relations), J.D. • Colorado won the last meeting in Boulder, 60-59, Jan. 22, 2003.
• Kansas is 1,000-460 all-time against schools in the Big 12 Conference. KU is 108-41 all-time versus schools from the state of Colorado.

• This marks the first meeting between the two schools. Kansas University is 1-0 all-time against teams from the America East conference. The Jayhawks beat Maine, 79-68, Jan. 15, 1983 at Allen Fieldhouse.
• Three Binghamton players — Brett Watson and Darel Lucas (Wichita), and Brandon Carter (McPherson) — are from the state of Kansas. Lucas, though, took an indefinite leave Dec. 3 to focus on academics.
• Bearcat head coach Al Walker served as the assistant junior-varsity coach at North Carolina under former KU head coach Roy Williams during the 1983-84 season.
• Walker faced Kansas once as the head coach of Cornell University. The Jayhawks defeated Cornell, 100-46, Jan. 2, 1996, in Lawrence.
• Bearcat associate head coach Lawrence Brenneman is a former Kansas State assistant. He’s 0-17 against KU. Brenneman was head coach at Seward County Community College for four years prior to his appointment at Binghamton.
• Second-year assistant coach Marlon Sears spent three years playing college ball in Kansas. He began his career at Seward, where he played under Brenneman. The two led the squad to a 35-3 record and a third-place finish in the NJCAA Tournament. Sears finished his playing career at Newman College.
• Binghamton is 4-5 after snapping a two-game losing streak with a 61-53 victory at St. Francis Dec. 17. BU has had 12 days between games.
• Binghamton scores 59.9 points per game off 40.0 percent shooting. The Bearcats are led by Nick Billings, who scores 12.4 points per game off 40.3 percent shooting. Billings also paces the club with 6.4 boards and 3.3 blocks per contest.
• Walker is 41-51 in his fourth year with the Bearcats, 183-222 in his 16th season as a head coach overall.

• Nevada was picked to win the Western Athletic Conference in a vote of both coaches and media members. Kirk Snyder was preseason pick for player of the year.
• Fifth-year coach Trent Johnson is 58-68 at Nevada.
• Entering this two-day event, Nevada had defeated Vermont, Weber State and UNLV and lost to UConn, Portland and Pacific. UConn beat Nevada, 93-79, Nov. 19 in the Preseason NIT.
• Rumor has it former Kansas player Jerod Haase, KU’s former standout guard from South Lake Tahoe, Calif., will attend tonight’s game. Haase, an assistant coach for North Carolina, will be returning home for holiday break and might make it back in time for the game.
• KU leads the all-time series with Nevada, 3-0. KU won the last meeting, 91-73, in 1980.
• Chad Bell, a 6-11 center from Inglewood, Calif., is sitting out the season after transferring from New Mexico.
• Kevin Pinkney hit 11 of 12 shots against Weber State. He had 25 in that game.

• KU coach Bill Self, playing UC Santa Barbara for the first time, is 11-2 all-time against teams from California.
• UC Santa Barbara is the preseason pick of the Big West coaches and media to win the conference title. The Gauchos won last year’s regular-season championship before dropping a Big West tournament semifinal game.
• Gaucho assistant David Campbell was the associate head coach at Kansas State 1994-1999. During Campbell’s time in Manhattan, K-State was 1-19 against KU. Campbell also served as an assistant coach at Pepperdine, and the Waves went 0-3 against KU.
• Keith Langford is five points shy of 1,000. He is averaging 16.3 points a game on 52.1 percent shooting and has scored in double figures in 20 straight games. He would be the 46th player in KU history with 1,000 points.
• UC Santa Barbara radio play-by-play announcer Brock Bowling is a KU graduate. … Bob Davis and Max Falkenstien are with KU’s football team this weekend in Florida, so the KU radio chores will be handled by ex-Jayhawk Brett Ballard and Nevada play-by-play man Don Marchand.

Last year: Oklahoma State won last year’s season finale in Lawrence, 55-20, in front of a crowd of 27,500. OSU quarterback Josh Fields passed for 354 yards and a school record six touchdowns. … KU’s Zach Dyer passed for 161 yards before becoming the third Jayhawk quarterback to be knocked out of a game with an injury in 2002. … Kansas tailback Clark Green had 215 total yards, including 160 rushing.

Cowboy connection: KU defensive coordinator Bill Young played at Oklahoma State from 1965-68 and served two stints on the Pokes’ coaching staff (1968-69, 1976).

Streaks: KU’s Green, Charles Gordon and Mark Simmons have each caught at least one pass in all 10 games. … OSU had won 10 straight home games before last week’s 55-16 loss to Texas.

More on Green: KU’s tailback needs 236 yards in the final two games to become KU’s first 1,000-yard rusher since June Henley in 1996.

The other Woods: Most Big 12 fans know OSU senior Rashaun Woods is one of the top receivers in the country. Woods’ younger brother D’Juan is OSU’s second-leading receiver with 26 catches for 377 yards. Brother Donovan is a backup quarterback.

Record watch: Fields is three touchdowns shy of Mike Gundy’s OSU record of 54 career passing TDs.

On the mark: OSU kicker Luke Phillips has made 12 of 13 field-goal attempts and 41 of 42 extra points.

• Kansas leads the all-time regular-season series, 4-0. KU won the last meeting, 105-62, Nov. 28, 2001, in Allen Fieldhouse. The two teams have never met during the preseason.
• KU is 33-7 all-time in exhibition games, 33-4 in home exhibition games. KU hasn’t lost an exhibition game since a 101-93 setback to Lisbonne Benfica Dec. 28, 1995, in Strausbourg, France.
• The Jayhawks have won 15 consecutive exhibition games. KU has won 19 straight exhibition games at home, last falling to Australia, 93-82, Nov. 29, 1993.
• Pitt State returns three starters and six letter-winners off a team that went 16-12 and finished sixth in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assn. last season.
• Senior forward Jamey Richardson averaged 14.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game last season. Junior guard Tommy Vosseler averaged 8.5 points and 2.4 boards.

• Self and Iba each attended and coached at Oklahoma State. Self played in Stillwater from 1982-85, and then served as an assistant for both Leonard Hamilton and Eddie Sutton from 1987-93.
