KU sixth in preseason AP Poll

Kansas University’s men’s basketball team lost two lottery picks from last year’s national-title runner-up, but just barely missed out on the top five in the Associated Press’ preseason poll.

The Jayhawks, who finished 30-8 last year and lost to Syracuse in the national championship game, were ranked sixth, receiving one first-place vote and 1,396 votes overall. They were one spot and 40 points behind the Missouri Tigers.

Other ranked Big 12 Conference teams include No. 12 Texas, No. 14 Oklahoma and No. 25 Oklahoma State. Colorado also received votes.

The rest of the top 10 were as follows: Connecticut, Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Syracuse, Florida, North Carolina and Gonzaga. The Jayhawks place the Michigan State Spartans on Nov. 25 in Allen Fieldhouse.

KU sixth in new AP Top 25

Victories over Baylor and Iowa State, along with losses by four top-10 teams, have vaulted the Jayhawks to No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Kansas (19-5 overall) moved up three spots after Florida, Duke, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh lost last week.

Texas (17-4) moved up three spots to No. 3 and is the top-ranked Big 12 team. Other ranked Big 12 teams include No. 5 Oklahoma (17-4) and No. 16 Oklahoma State (19-4). Missouri also received votes.

Arizona (20-2) is still the No. 1 team in the nation, receiving 59 of 72 first-place votes. The rest of the top 10 includes Kentucky, Louisville, Florida, Duke, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.

? Kansas University’s men’s basketball team is ranked sixth in the country in the USA TODAY/ESPN preseason poll. The Jayhawks, who return five starters from last year’s 24-10 team, tallied 587 points.

Arizona received 19 first-place votes and was ranked first with 756 points.

Duke received 12 first-place votes and is ranked second, followed by Stanford, North Carolina and Michigan State. Maryland is ranked seventh, Tennessee eighth, Illinois ninth and Seton Hall 10th. Oklahoma is ranked 21st and Iowa State 23rd.
