Gainesville, Georgia ? Kansas University senior Beth Olson was the Jayhawks’ top finisher when she placed third in Sunday’s singles competition of the Head of the Chattahoochee rowing regatta.
Olson was third in 21:59.2. The rest of the KU competitors finished in a bunch at places 5-9. They were: Casey Smith, fifth, 23:03.1; Kristy Hainer, sixth, 23:12; Alexis Boston, seventh, 23:48.9; Beth Hickey, eighth, 24:00.7; and Krys Corbett, ninth, 2:09.3.
Three of the team’s four races were held Saturday.
In Saturday’s races, the team of Olson-Hainer placed second in doubles in 20:58.8; Smith and Laura Adamson were fourth in 21:21.4; Hickey and Jennifer Ebel were fifth in 21:22.1; and Boston and Sarah Smith were eighth in 22:51.0.
Kansas was seventh in the women’s championship 8 race and 12th in the women’s championship 4.
“I think we made some good improvement in the 8s over last week,” KU coach Rob Catloth said. “We did well in doubles once again, and our four was able to finish in the top half, which is good to see. I think we are still improving and that is what we looking to do with this fall season.”
