KU coach Reynolds earns U.S. team spot

? Kansas University throws coach Doug Reynolds placed third in the discus at Thursday’s USA Track and Field championships, gaining a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at the world championships in August in Paris.

Reynolds unleashed a throw of 205 feet, 9 inches, notching third behind Carl Brown and Adam Setliff, who had throws of 218-8 and 206-5.

“It’s great for him as an athlete and great for the Kansas program,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said.

No other Jayhawk athlete advanced. KU freshman Abby Emsick placed 16th in the discus competition in 165-7, and sophomore Jeremy Mims placed seventh in his 800 heat in 1:50.58.
