Bookman advances in 200 meters

? Kansas University’s Leo Bookman had the second-best time of all competitors in the 200-meter dash Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor track and field meet.

Bookman clocked 21.19 in the 200 prelims, and his time of 20.62 in the semifinals took second place among 24 competitors. He will race in the finals at 10:10 p.m. CDT Saturday.

Mark Menefee, who qualified Wednesday in the 5,000 meters, will run in the finals at 11 p.m. Saturday.

Seven other KU athletes competed but didn’t advance. Sondra Rauterkus went 5-83/4 in the high jump, Benaud Shirley 48-61/4 in the triple jump, and Laura Lavoie 4:27.96 in the 1,500. The 1,600 relay of Robbie Harriford, Stacy Keller, Shameika McField and Kim Clark finished fourth in its heat in 3:39.75.
