The University of Texas was the overwhelming favorite to win the Big 12 Conference baseball title, and Kansas University was tapped last by league coaches in a preseason poll.
UT, the defending national and Big 12 champion, received a perfect 81 points in the poll, which awarded nine points for a first-place vote, eight for second place, and so on. The 10 Big 12 coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
The league coaches were almost as unanimous in their selection of the Jayhawks for 10th place. KU picked up 10 points, meaning it received eight 10th-place votes and one ninth place vote.
Here’s the predicted order of finish, with team, first-place votes in parentheses and point total:
Texas (9) 81 points, Baylor 62, Oklahoma (1) 61, Nebraska 54, Texas Tech 54, Oklahoma State 47, Texas A&M 38, Kansas State 24, Missouri 17, Kansas 10.
