Former Kansas University running back Reggie Duncan is one of 45 underclassmen who have applied for early entry to the NFL Draft.
Duncan (5-foot-9, 215 pounds) struggled with injuries last season and also clashed with first-year head coach Mark Mangino. After Duncan, a Killeen, Texas, product, left the team with two games left in the season, both he and Mangino declined to reveal whether the running back had quit or been dismissed.
Duncan, a junior, was one of the most heralded recruits signed by former KU coach Terry Allen. He was a SuperPrep Magazine All-American at Ellison High, where he led the state of Texas in rushing as a junior with 2,400 yards and 19 touchdowns.
He was limited to 1,200 yards and six TDs as a senior when he missed three games with a hamstring injury, but he still was rated as the No. 8 running back in the Big 12 region by Prep Star Magazine and was considered one of the top-five backs in the state of Texas.
Duncan never lived up to his billing at KU, finishing his collegiate career with just 1,018 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 267 carries in 24 games. As a junior, Duncan amassed 72 yards rushing in five games.
Duncan had problems off the field, including a conviction for shoplifting and a much-publicized purse-snatching incident.
