Ann Arbor, Mich. ? Kansas University freshman Christine Skoda went 2-0 in singles play and won her doubles match during the first day of the spring season-opening Michigan Invitational on Friday.
Skoda defeated Kendra Clark of Eastern Michigan, 2-1 (injury retired), and Michigan’s Jen Duprez, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Skoda teamed with junior Emily Haylock to beat Eastern Michigan’s Clark and Ling Kansuthi, 9-8 (6).
KU’s Kim Lorenz beat EMU’s Shari Gamarnik, 6-1, 7-5, and Haylock defeated EMU’s Kansuthi, 6-1, 7-5.
Also, Kansas’ Paige Brown and Lorenz upended Eastern Michigan’s Gamarnik and Amilia Lincauru.
Kansas’ Courtney and Kristen Steinbock fell to EMU’s Lisa D’Amelio and Rebecca Hawkins, 8-3.
The tournament will resume today.
