Kansas State women blow out Kansas, 88-49

The No. 4-ranked Wildcats led by just 11 points at halftime, but held the Jayhawks to less than 18 percent shooting (5-of-28) and outscored them 28-6 in the paint in the second half. The loss was Kansas’ worst home defeat ever.

Kendra Wecker and Nicole Ohlde both scored 18 points for Kansas State (14-1 overall, 1-0 Big 12). Ohlde added 11 rebounds and five assists. Laurie Koehn scored 14 points and Brie Madden added 12 for the Wildcats, who hit nearly 57 percent from the field and 55 percent from beyond the three-point arc.

Tamara Ransburg led Kansas (7-5, 0-1) with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-15 shooting. She scored eight points in the first half on 4-of-4 shooting, but played just five minutes because of foul trouble. Erica Hallman added 11 points for the Jayhawks, who shot 29.3 percent (17-of-58) from the floor.

The Wildcats dished out 21 assists, compared to nine for the Jayhawks. Kansas grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, but was outgained on the boards, 40-36.
