? Kansas University bounced back from a loss Friday with a pair of victories Saturday at the Softball By the Beach Tournament.

KU defeated Utah, 6-3, and Brigham Young, 4-2, and is 3-1 at the three-day tournament. KU is 10-2 overall, its best start ever under seventh-year head coach Tracy Bunge.

Against Utah, KU squandered a 3-0 lead, but rallied with three runs late in the game. Senior Kirsten Milhoan (3-1) went the distance, striking out four while allowing three runs.

In the second game, the Jayhawks rallied to defeat BYU (8-4).

Junior Kara Pierce (7-1) saw her scoreless-innings streak end at 22 when the Cougars scored twice in the second inning, but the right-hander held BYU scoreless the rest of the way. She struck out eight and scattered seven hits.

After getting only one hit during the first three innings, the Jayhawks exploded for five hits and three runs in the fourth. KU took the lead on an infield single by junior Sandy Smith that scored Wallach.

Freshman Destiny Frankenstein, Torres and Smith each had a pair of hits in the game to pace an eight-hit Jayhawk attack.

In Friday’s late game, Jami Trinidad singled in two runs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give UC Santa Barbara a walk-off 4-3 win.
