Softball: KU tops Fresno, SDSU

By J-W Staff Reports     Feb 16, 2003

? Freshman Destiny Frankenstein blasted a solo home run in the top of the first inning and junior pitcher Kara Pierce did the rest, leading Kansas University’s softball team to a 1-0 victory Saturday against No. 15 Fresno State at the Campbell/Cartier Tournament.

The Jayhawks (6-1) beat San Diego State, 6-3, earlier Saturday.

Pierce (4-1) allowed just two hits in seven innings against Fresno, walking one and striking out seven. Good thing, because KU managed just one hit after Frankenstein’s early homer, and the Jayhawks committed three errors.

In the first game, freshman Jessica Moppin and junior Sylvia Pfeiffer each blasted two-run home runs in the first inning.

Senior Kirsten Milhoan (2-0) pitched all seven innings for the Jayhawks, allowing three runs — two earned — on seven hits and one walk.

Junior Mel Wallach scored two runs for the Jayhawks.
