Why were two Kansas University women’s basketball players’ jerseys retired in a ceremony during a men’s basketball game and not during a women’s basketball game?
After consultation with KU women’s coach Marian Washington, Monday night’s KU-MU men’s game was selected to fete Tamecka Dixon and Angela Aycock based on the availability of the two honorees, according to Doug Vance, the athletic department’s director of communications. Kansas also retired the jersey of Lynette Woodard, the only other woman to be honored, at a men’s game during the 1992-93 season, Vance said.
