Former Air Force Academy offensive line coach Ed Warinner has been named to the same position on the Kansas football coaching staff.
Warinner, who has spent 19 years as a college football coach, spent the last three years at Air Force. He previously had spent 13 years at Army, two seasons at Michigan State and a year at Akron.
“Ed’s skill as an offensive line coach will enhance our entire offense,” KU head coach Mark Mangino said. “His expertise in the run game makes him a valuable addition to our staff.”
The Falcons led the nation in rushing offense last year, averaging 307.8 yards per game. Air Force has led the Mountain West Conference and ranked third in the nation in rushing the past two years. While Warinner was at Army, the Black Knights led the nation in rushing several seasons, including 1993, 1996 and 1998.
Warinner was a standout football and baseball player at Mount Union College from 1980 to 1984. In 1983, he was the school’s leading rusher, reciever and scorer. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Mount Union College in 1984 and his master’s degree from Akron in 1985.
Brandon Blaney will assist Warinner with offensive line coaching duties and also will coach the tight ends.
