Kansas University junior outfielder Ryan Baty was named NCAA National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn., the organization announced Tuesday.
Baty hit .619 (13-for-21) in the Jayhawks’ six-game series Jan. 24-26 against Hawaii-Hilo, with two homers, nine RBIs and no strikeouts. During one stretch, he had hits in seven straight at-bats.
It’s the first time a KU player has received the honor.
Kansas (4-2) will play a three-game series at Arkansas-Little Rock starting Friday.
