Former Kansas University offensive lineman Rod Jones has been released by the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins signed Jones, 29, to a three-year, $3 million contract prior to last season as a free agent. The deal included a $500,000 signing bonus.
Jones was signed as a prospective starter at guard a few months after starting the Super Bowl for the St. Louis Rams at tackle, but he never played a regular-season game for the Redskins.
Jones failed to make the transition to guard and suffered a season-ending biceps injury in the 2002 preseason. He also was hurt this summer, suffering a sprained ankle early in training camp. He returned to practices last week.
