Journal-World goes behind scenes with KU football

By Staff     Aug 25, 2003

More than 100 players, 11 coaches, dozens of support staffers — and one photographer.

Journal-World Senior Editor Bill Snead is being given exclusive access to the Jayhawk football program, and this week we will take you behind the scenes as the team prepares to kick off its 2003 season.

We’ll go into the huddle, to the training table, team meetings and strategy sessions as the Jayhawks get ready to face Northwestern University. Kickoff is 6 p.m. Saturday.

Day by day through Friday, we’ll show you what’s happening on the practice field and off. Until now, they’re scenes unknown to anyone outside the program.

Saturday, we’ll bring you the first edition of our weekly Game Day section, offering a comprehensive look at the matchup and other games across the Big 12 Conference.

Bill Snead/Journal-World PhotoThe sun wasn’t very high in the sky and the shadows were long Wednesday morning when the KU football team gathered for early practice behind the Parrott Athletic Complex. Wednesday was the last of the Jayhawks’ preseason two-a-day practices. Allen Fieldhouse is in the upper-lefthand corner, and Hoglund Ballpark is at top center.
