Senior Kirsten Milhoan hurled a three-hit shutout, leading the Kansas University softball squad to a 6-0 victory against Missouri-Kansas City Wednesday at Jayhawk Field.
The game was shortened to six innings because of rainy conditions.
The Jayhawks were scheduled to play the Kangaroos in a doubleheader, but poor weather forced the cancellation of the second game.
Milhoan (9-8) retired the first eight UMKC batters and struck out three. She allowed just three singles.
KU’s offense was led by junior Mel Wallach, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two doubles. Freshman Destiny Frankenstein added a two-run double, and freshman Melaney Torres was 2-for-3 with a run for the Jayhawks.
Sophomore Lindsey Weinstein had the other Jayhawk RBI.
KU (24-20) returns to action against Nebraska at 2 p.m. Friday at Jayhawk Field.
