Lawrence High’s softball team split a doubleheader with Shawnee Mission North Friday, winning the first game, 10-9, in 11 innings and losing the second, 9-5, at Holcom Complex.
“We had 22 hits, but they had 28, so they hit the ball real well against us,” LHS coach Reenie Stogsdill said. “I think they were two evenly matched games. We need to be a little more consistent up and down. It’s a doubleheader we felt we could get a sweep.”
Danielle Huff went 5-for-6 in the opener, scoring her sister from second base with a base hit in the bottom of the 11th inning.
In the 11th, Courtney Taulbert reached on an error, but was thrown out at third on Drew Huff’s single. Huff took second on the throw then scored on her sister’s hit. Drew Huff was 3-for-6 in the game and scored three runs. Jenni Morrell went 3-for-6.
Whitney Juneau was the winning pitcher for the Lions.
Taulbert went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Drew Huff 2-5 with a double in the second game.
LHS, 4-4, will travel Tuesday to Olathe East.
