Lawrence, Syracuse mayors to make bet

By J-W Staff Reports     Apr 7, 2003

Lawrence Mayor Sue Hack is ready to put the city’s best ribs and buffalo wings where her mouth is — but not the way you think.

Hack said she will call or e-mail Syracuse, N.Y., Mayor Matthew Driscoll this morning and issue a challenge to him for tonight’s NCAA championship game between Kansas University and Syracuse University.

“On the off chance we aren’t successful, I’m going to put up a collection of ribs and wings from Lawrence,” Hack said Sunday night. “Of course, I won’t have to worry about doing that, because we’re not going to lose.”

Hack said she didn’t know what Driscoll might offer in return.

“They do have a Greek festival,” Hack said of Syracuse. “If they want to send us some Greek food, we’ll settle for that. We’ll see what happens.”
