Numbers released Monday show a strong majority of Kansas University athletes eventually graduate.

Sixty-eight percent of scholarship freshmen who entered KU in fall 1996 graduated within six years, the highest figure for KU since the NCAA began compiling data in 1991. Sixty-two percent of combined scholarship freshmen who entered KU in 1993, ’94, ’95, and ’96 graduated.

The Jayhawk men’s basketball squad recorded a 100-percent rate for 1996; the four-class average for men’s basketball was 73 percent.
