Also inducted was KU women’s assistant coach Lynette Woodard as one of the Harlem Globetrotters, who went into the Hall as a group.

The KU contingent met with Brown at a reception for the inductees and right after the coach gave his acceptance speech.

“He was happy to see a big turnout from Kansas,” Frederick said. “He was so thankful and grateful everybody came. It was a super night, a tremendous night. It’s amazing what Larry has accomplished. They showed the video before the actual induction which talked about KU winning the title in ’88. He’s had a great, great career.”

During Brown’s speech, “he thanked the people who had an influence on him when he was starting, all the players, coaches and administrators he’s worked for all his assistant coaches,” Frederick said. “One thing that got a big reaction from the crowd was he said, ‘I’ve always emphasized the importance of playing together, unselfishly, being as unselfish as you can. After the most recent World Games, our country has to get back to that.”‘

Turgeon is head coach and Boyle is an assistant at Wichita State. Pope is head coach at Lincoln University. Also on hand was Brown’s good friend, Lawrence businessman Doug Compton.
