Basketball: KU done with Brewer

Kansas University is no longer recruiting Ronnie Brewer, a 6-foot-5 high school senior basketball guard from Fayetteville, Ark.

Brewer said Sunday night his visit to KU for Late Night With Roy Williams was off.

“Kansas’ coaches left a message with my mom. They will try to recruit a big man with their last scholarship,” Brewer said on Greg Swaim’s national Internet radio show.

KU last week received commitments from power forward David Padgett and guard Omar Wilkes to go with earlier commitments from guards Jeremy Case and J.R. Giddens.

Meanwhile, 6-11 center Stephen Verwers of Weatherford, Texas, said he would visit Colorado State for its Midnight Madness and Kansas early next week. He’s also considering Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas.

Big men Ekenne Ibekwe (6-9, Carson, Calif.) and Josh Boone (6-9, Mt. Airy, Md.) have said they would be at KU’s Late Night on Friday.
