Recruits mulling options

Two high-profile high school basketball prospects considering Kansas are expected to give verbal commitments to colleges this week.

Omar Wilkes, 6-foot-4 from Los Angeles, has scheduled a Wednesday afternoon news conference at Loyola High School where he’ll announce for either Kansas, UCLA or Cal-Berkeley.

David Padgett, 6-11 from Reno, Nev., who was visited by North Carolina coach Matt Doherty on Sunday and KU’s Roy Williams on Monday, also may come up with a decision by midweek, but will not hold a news conference to announce his choice.

Padgett’s dad, Pete, told Shay Wildeboor of rivals.com that family members would discuss finalists KU, North Carolina and Arizona the next couple days, with David choosing when he’s ready.

Ronnie Brewer, a 6-5 guard from Fayetteville, Ark., tells Wildeboor he definitely will visit Kansas for Late Night With Roy Williams on Oct. 11.

Brewer, the son of former Arkansas great Ron Brewer, made an unofficial visit to Arkansas last weekend. He will visit KU and Oklahoma in successive weeks.

He told Wildeboor he may visit Oklahoma State on Oct. 25 and Connecticut on Nov. 1.

“My parents are real excited for Late Night. That type of relationship could have an influence on my decision,” Brewer told rivals.com.

Both Padgett and Wilkes have not tipped their hand to anybody if they are leaning in one direction.

“He’s (Omar) been very quiet about it,” Loyola coach Jim Williamson told Jon Kirby of rivals.com.
