KU unveils search committee

By J-W Staff Report     May 29, 2002

Kansas University has named a six person search committee to find a replacement for head baseball coach Bobby Randall.

The committee is led by associate athletics director Richard Konzem, who is sports supervisor for KU baseball.

Also on the committee is KU softball coach and former Jayhawk player Tracy Bunge, KU professor of engineering/Big 12 faculty rep Don Green, K Club board member and former KU baseball player Lee Ice, Atlanta Braves assistant director of player development and former KU player Darryl Monroe, plus Jay Hinrichs of the Williams Fund, former assistant GM with the Kansas City Royals.

“We are looking to find a baseball coach that will be a great fit for the University of Kansas to ensure our success within the Big 12 Conference. If you are successful in the Big 12 you are successful on the national level,” Konzem said.

The search group will meet in person and via teleconference and try to settle on a handful of candidates to interview in mid-June. The group hopes to recommend a candidate to AD Al Bohl in late June.

“It’s been impressive to me the level of interest in this job,” Konzem said. “It’s been extensive, the number of calls between people interested or people with recommendations.”

KU will consider both head coaches and assistants on all levels.
