The Jayhawk men’s team is represented by seniors Scott Russell (javelin) and Charlie Gruber (1,500) and junior Mark Menefee (5,000).
Seniors Katy Eisenmenger (1,500) and Jennie Wonder (100 hurdles) and freshmen Brooklyn Hann (triple jump) will represent KU’s women at the Wednesday-Saturday event.
Russell, who earned his first-ever NCAA championship during the indoor track season, will attempt to snare his first outdoor national title at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Windsor, Ontario native, who threw a season best 249-3 to win the javelin at last week’s Big 12 meet, is ranked second in the country behind Ron White of Eastern Illinois, who has thrown 76.7 meters to Russell’s 75.98.
Gruber, a Denver senior, enters Thursday’s 7:40 p.m. prelims with the country’s second-best 1,500 time (3:41.08). Connecticut’s Dan Wilson leads the pack at 3:40.0. The 1,500 finals are set for 8 p.m. Saturday.
Menefee, a Buhler junior, enters Saturday’s 8:40 p.m. 5,000 with the 17th best time in the country (13:52.8).
