Tuition and fees at Kansas University would increase 21 percent this fall for in-state students under a proposal unveiled Wednesday by university officials.
Rates would increase from $2,884 per year to $3,484 for a student taking 15 credit hours.
Out-of-state tuition will increase from $9,810.50 to $10,686.50.
The tuition increases are nearly identical to a proposal approved by the a committee of students, faculty and staff this spring. That proposal also was endorsed by KU’s University Council.
KU Provost David Shulenburger and Chancellor Robert Hemenway told the Kansas Board of Regents about the proposal Wednesday afternoon. Regents are scheduled to vote on the tuition rates in June.
Regents originally directed universities to present five-year plans for tuition. They later directed them to include only this fall’s numbers, saying the state budget would affect tuition in future years.
