Kansas easily defeated Texas Tech, 90-50, in Saturday’s semifinal game at the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo. Kansas (29-2) moves on to the championship game at 2 p.m. Sunday, when it will face the winner of the upcoming Texas-Oklahoma semifinal game.

Kansas came out hot and never let up, shooting 59 percent in the first half to Texas Tech’s 29 percent. KU ended the game shooting at a 55.2 percent clip to the Red Raiders’ 27.1 percent.

The story for Texas Tech could be summed up in two words: one possession.

That’s how long the Red Raiders went toe-to-toe with the Jayhawks. Then KU hit seven of its first eight shots to open up a double-digit lead in the first five minutes of play. The Jayhawks went into the locker room at halftime leading by 29 points, 51-27.

Kirk Hinrich led KU scorers with 17, followed by Drew Gooden, who had 16 points and 21 rebounds. Aaron Miles had 15 points and tied a tournament record with 15 assists. Keith Langford finished with 10 points.
