Baylor assistant baseball coach Mitch Thompson was the last of four candidates to interview for the vacant Kansas University head coaching position on Friday.
“It went well and I enjoyed my time meeting the people, seeing the town and getting to know the people in the athletic department,” said Goodland native and Fort Hays State graduate Thompson, who was joined by his wife, Amber, on the trip.
Thompson is believed to be the leading candidate to replace Bobby Randall. Others in the running: KU assistant Wilson Kilmer, Chico State coach Lindsay Meggs and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo coach Ritch Price.
“The committee will meet tomorrow (Friday) and at that point make a recommendation of acceptable candidates to Al (Bohl, KU athletic director), so over the weekend we can decide where we are going and hopefully the first of next week make an offer to a candidate,” said committee chair Richard Konzem.
