Cary, N.C. ? Kansas University’s men’s golf team shot 298 on Saturday and finished second with a three-round total of 860 in the 15-team Intercollegiate at MacGregor Downs.
The No. 15-ranked Jayhawks, who led the tournament after its first day, finished behind No. 23 Duke, which shot a three-round total of 845. The Blue Devils were in second going into the final round, but shot a 280 on Saturday. No. 11 Minnesota finished third (862) and North Carolina State took fourth place (867).
Kevin Ward finished tied for third with a total of 210. Tyler Hall tied for 10th (214), Tyler Docking tied for 23rd (218), Andrew Price tied for 25th (219) and Gary Woodland tied for 77th (234).

“We were able to beat Missouri, which is always good,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “We weren’t able to close the gap on K-State so we still have something to work for. Compared to last year, we have made big improvements from where we were at this meet then.”
For the second meet in a row, the women captured first place in five events.
The Jayhawks’ winners were Robbie Harriford in the 200, Stacy Keller in the 400, Kim Clark in the 600, Jennie Wonder in the 60 hurdles and the 4×400 relay team.

Scott Russell, Vadim Gvozdetskiy and Benaud Shirley were winners for the KU men.
Russell, who has qualified for the NCAA Championships, won the weight throw with a toss of 74 feet, 5 inches. Gvozdetskiy, who has won every meet this year, cleared an NCAA provisional height of 17-0 3/4. Shirley jumped 49-6 1/2 to win the triple jump.
“All-in-all we had a good meet, it was a great team effort,” Redwine said. “We had a lot of people do well and we will continue working hard and getting better.”
