KU’s Jeff Boschee needs three three-pointers to tie four to break Billy Thomas’ school record for three-point field goals made (269). He’s 14 threes shy of breaking the mark for most career threes by any player to attend a Big 12 school. Oklahoma State’s Randy Rutherford holds that mark at 279.
UCLA coach Steve Lavin is 125-50 overall, 0-2 versus KU. He is one of three coaches in the country to lead his school to four Sweet 16s in the last five years. The others: Tom Izzo (Michigan State) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke).
KU coach Roy Williams is 3-1 versus UCLA. Overall, KU is 3-8 versus the Bruins.
KU won the last meeting, 99-98, on Nov. 9, 2000 in New York.

Senior Billy Knight helped UCLA to a 6-0 record, including a 4-0 Pac-10 start, during the Bruins’ holiday break. In those games he averaged 31.2 minutes, 17.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists and steals. He hit 15 of 31 threes in that span, scoring 32 versus Washington State.
UCLA frosh guard Cedric Bozeman is back after undergoing arthrsocopic knee surgery on Dec. 3. Rico Hines suffered a concussion at practice earlier this week.
Like Kansas, UCLA went 2-1 at this year’s Maui Invitational. The Bruins beat Houston, 71-60, lost to Ball State, 91-73, and beat South Carolina, 89-77.
Kansas is 48-25 versus schools in the Pac-10 and 54-21 versus schools from California. UCLA is the only school in the Pac-10 with a winning record against KU.
Citing a deep and talented roster, UCLA senior Ray Young announced his plans to red-shirt on Nov. 8. Last year, Young averaged 7.0 points in 31 games. He started seven contests.
Soph forward Spencer Gloger, who transferred to UCLA from Princeton last season and sat out the season, has returned to Princeton. Gloger must sit out this season if he hopes to return to Princeton basketball. Jon Crispin, a two-year starter at Penn State, is sitting out this season at UCLA. Crispin’s brother, Joe, plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Since 1989-90, UCLA is 75-8 in nonconference games at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins are 32-6 in games under Steve Lavin.
